No Dolly Rocker
The third single from his debut album ('Trouble') 'Jolene' is thankfully not a cover of the famous Dolly Parton song that bears the same name! What it is, is a stripped down acoustic number that owes more than a passing nod to Nick Drake.
'Jolene' is a really laid back number that creates a certain atmosphere with some poignant lyrics. Slow paced and as skeletal in construction as it is, it's a strange choice for a single, hardly chart material you would think but I suppose it will serve as an introduction to those that are yet to be acquainted with Mr Lamontage. At times fragile and engaging this is a decent enough song but a whole album might be a little too much to take in one sitting.
