Fallen Angels.

Taken from debut album "Passover" by Texan six piece, The Black Angels, the new two track single of 'Better Off Alone' and 'Yesterday Always Knows' is a slow, psychedelic indie/rock and roll hybrid which sounds quite a lot like a cross between The Velvet Underground and Galaxie 500 with some Doors-ish keyboard thrown in. The tunes have a really old school, low-fi, raw bluesy sound with loads of feedback on the jangly guitars.

Both of the tracks have quite a minimal sound, but they manage to hook you in straight away with their trance-like languid pace and soft experimental fuzz. There's definitely something strangely addictive about these songs, a dreamy quality to the noise the Black Angels produce; perhaps it's from the echoey vocals, epic and swirling distorted guitars or the commanding and hypnotic drumming. Whatever it is, it works really well.
