Single from indie artist.

After a glance at the incredibly brief press release and plain white sleeve of this single, it's impossible to get any impression of Benjy Ferree besides a rather nondescript one. Yet when 'In the Countryside' kicks in it's a pleasant surprise given that it is nowhere near nondescript, suggesting rather that the simple presentation is order to let the music speak for itself.

The single is a rollicking stomp of indie-folk, with a rocking piano based melody that is widely infectious. The vocals sound more like those of the early 70s than anything modern, something I rather appreciate in these generally formulaic times. By the chorus 'In the Countryside' is stomping its way through the speakers with such effortlessness that the listener is happy to be swept along with it. Another excellent release for summer, this song is perfect for dancing to in the garden on a sticky summer's day. Released on the major league indie label Domino, you might want to investigate this now in order to let its twinkling enthusiasm work its magic on you.
