An Impressive Start

its a buffalo - all lower case with no apostrophe – doesn't really stand out as a name for a band, especially considering the way the spelling and grammar are used. With a name like this some people are not impressed and quick to judge, but the music sounds better than the name. The band releases their second single, a double A side featuring the tracks 'Divorce Song' and 'Somewhere in Range', on which writers Ben Thorley (Divorce Song) and Steve Warburton (Somewhere In Range) swap lead vocals on a track a piece. Backing them up with chants is drummer Nigel Bennet.

Unexpectedly, the music is actually not that bad. Both songs on the CD have an indie feel to them, and are catchy, and quite upbeat. Having three steady and calm vocals present gives more warmth and much more depth to the music. The most interesting part of each of the tracks is the musical arrangements with the instruments throughout. 'Divorce Song' has bell chimes, which gave it a very interesting touch, and a very attractive guitar riff, where 'Somewhere In Range' has some rather unusual sounds that give a new take on the music, including harmonica being heard in the background.

Both songs are moderately good, but not particularly strong in terms of becoming singles rising up the charts. They don't really offer anything that we haven't heard before, but still a good listen. it's a buffalo are currently in stages of writing and recording their debut album, so maybe by the time this is released they would have found a way to really impress listeners.
