Melancholy Yet Catchy.

Cherry Ghost's debut album 'Thirst For Romance' achieved considerable success in the UK, reaching number 7 in the album charts. 'People Help The People' the second single release from the album, following up April's 'Mathematics'. Not technically a fruity apparition but in fact an indie band from Bolton; the group, led by vocalist Simon Alred, cite Sparklehorse and Johnny Cash as influences (and have taken their name from a Wilco lyric).

The above bands are not a bad place to start if you are searching for an idea of Cherry Ghost's sound. It is melancholy, yet not in the thoroughly miserable way of Malcolm Middleton or Bright Eyes in a bad mood. 'People Help The People' travels along at a steady pace, alternating an anthemic chorus with more introspective verses in the formula that has served many a British band well, from The Verve to Travis and at times the Manic Street Preachers. Pianos lurk under Simon's largely unremarkable but flawlessly delivered vocals and the track is packed full of hooks, as its heavy airplay on the BBC's digital radio station for indie, 6 Music, proves.
