More Of The Same
Their last album proved that Athlete had some tunes that could really make people stand up and stare; the kind that made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. It would be nice to say that, 'Hurricane' was more of the same, but although it still has the nervy, electric edge with sharp guitar work, its pappy chorus really doesn't surpass the band's previous work.
There are moments of sparkling contemplation as singer Joel Pott muses, "Oh hurricane, what you gonna do to us this time?" before the chirpy tune picks up again. It might be inoffensive enough but it's hardly groundbreaking and really a sorry let down when you consider the material that fellow melodic rockers Snow Patrol are putting out. This is the kind of tune that it's hard to imagine anyone hating, but equally hard to imagine anyone genuinely caring about.
