Tom Baxter - 'Better' (single)

The sharp eared amongst you will recognise Tom Baxter's 'Better' from the Simon Pegg film 'Run, Fatboy, Run'. A slow-paced romantic piano/guitar driven ballad, this infectious riff will seep into your subconscious whether you want it to or not. 'Better' is refreshingly optimistic, rather than the bitter-sweet acoustic odes that seem to be popular recently.

Because it is slow to start with, this isn't for people who like their songs immediate and punchy. But bear with it, and it builds into something catchy, yet remains simple at heart. And sometimes simple is the way to go. The delicate, but somewhat strained, vocals will either appeal to your romantic side or irritate you in the extreme. 'Better' doesn't reach the massive climax of a chart ballad, but that suits the song – the restrained production (from Jeremy Stacey, also known for producing Sheryl Crow) does the lyrical intimacy credit.

This is infectious, delicate acoustic pop at its best, but won't appeal to everybody. And should definitely be taken in small doses – too many sweets make you sick. Be warned, this could become popular at weddings in the future.
