We're talking about the folk folk.

The world of music needs more banjo introductions and thankfully 'The Box' provides a cracking one that immediately sets the scene for a quirky and melodious indie number.

The chorus may be straight from a square dance or a hoe-down but the verse has the sprinkling of Belle and Sebastian to it and by the time Johnny is joined by some female vocals, the track is racing away to rousing finish and begging to be played again from the start.

It's a very simple song, theres not a million things going on but its very enjoyable and its hard to listen to it without having a rather large smile on your face, such is the up-beat joy emanating from it.

The bonus track 'The Wrote & The Writ' is darker in tone but as it retains that banjo-like sound, roomthirteen are very happy to overlook this turn in events and focus on the traditional folky sound instead. Theres a growing interest in folk and traditional turns and whilst Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit have a contemporary edge, there is an olden style to their music, lets face it, how many songs would have lines about "breaking bread and being encouraged to drink the blood of Christ" at their focal point.

That sort of lyrics is as likely to turn the listener off to it as turn on but if you can get beyond it or it doesn't bother you, these are two decent little songs that hark at a simpler time.
