Grave Metal

Whilst music history defined Metallica, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer as the “Big Four” of thrash metal, there has always been a scene of thrash in Germany which is home to Helloween, Destruction, Sinner and more notably Grave Digger.

Since 1984 Grave Digger blasting out their brand of Teutonic thrash metal with concepts to boot. In this case there is more religious iconography than the Vatican. Upon listening to this record you cannot help but notice the vocal similarities between singer Chris Boltendahl and Dave Mustaine both sharing that guttural snarl.

The guitar playing is superb being at break-neck speed and the rhythm section is tight as Scrooge’s wallet, but it is almost like you have heard half of this riffs somewhere before. "Grave In The No Man’s Land" sounds somewhat like Metallica , "Hell To Pay" sounds uncannily like Anthrax and "Hundred Days" sounds like Megadeth played a little faster. There is also an operatic element to this record but against the vocals it sounds wasted.

As dedicated as this band sound this is a cringe-worthy record. Purely for fans of the European metal flavour.
