Debut Single from Ms Independent

You may well have heard of Roxy Saint, her tireless efforts at getting her name known led to her being much hyped and then inexplicably dissed by Kerrang (?). This is her debut CD single taken from her full-length DVD only release ‘The Underground Personality Tapes’.

It’s difficult to define what genre of music she falls into and that’s probably a good thing, it’s something a little different!

Firecracker is a mid paced sleaze-filled tune that really grooves live but is slightly flat on CD. It has a gyrating rhythm backed with fuzz guitars & distorted vocals. Not exactly lyrically challenging, it’s an interesting tune though that does enough to warrant further investigation of her material without really setting the world alight.

Double A-side ‘Everybody Wants to Fuck’ is more instantly accessible, and to these ears is the better tune. A solid guitar riff leads into a catchy chorus which moves along at pace. It’s good stuff and whilst these tracks are probably the strongest from the DVD there is enough in the rest of the tracks to suggest that there is plenty more to come.

Determined to stay ‘independent’ Roxy Saint is self financed, and with a limited promotion budget it could be a while before she makes the breakthrough but if she does it will be due in no small part to her own industriousness and for that, Ms Saint, we salute you.
