Thursday • Kill The House Lights

‘Kill The House Lights’ is a double CD featuring one disc of live audio material and one DVD packed full of live footage, interviews, videos, b-sides and brand new songs. It’s definitely something that all Thursday fans should own, and be warned because it will make you dig out every single Thursday record you own to play back to back.

After just one listen of the live audio I struggle to find fault. It brings out the diversity in Thursday and their passion for their songs comes across so blatantly. It’s one of those CD’s that you know you’ll listen to at least once a day and that’s because Thursday are a band for every occasion. Their music is angry, up beat, loud, quiet and intense and will suit if you want to release tension or drown your sorrows.

Whatever you pigeon hole their music into, screamo, emo or soul baring post hardcore it really does not matter. What is so obvious about this band is their sheer talent at writing songs that combine all elements of punk, hardcore and rock to make something as melodic and yet so fierce as they do.

The 90-minute DVD takes us back to the early days in Thursdays career including footage of their first ever show. It also features great tracks including ‘Paris In Flames’ and ‘Understanding In A Car Crash’ from 2001’s ‘Full Collapse’ and newer track ‘Sugar In The Sacrament’ This is a great in depth look into the beginnings of their career together and highlights the bands influences from ‘Hot Water Music’, to At The Drive In’ and ‘Saves The Day’ It then showcases the move to Victory records and the introduction of the album that got them their ‘Full Collapse’.

The audio CD is equally good featuring 12 tracks including several new ones, the first of which is opener ‘Ladies and Gentlemen: My Brother The Failure’. It also includes a demo version of ‘Paris In Flames and ‘Signals Over The Air’ from ‘War All The Time’

Anyone who enjoys the beauty, the intensity and the passion of Thursday will appreciate ‘Kill The House Lights’ it’s a no-brainer, watching this band take hold of their audience sends shivers down the back of your neck. Listening to the live audio CD makes you remember why you love this band. I definitely recommend this album to and Thursday fan, in fact I think I think it should be compulsory for every Thursday fan to own this.
