Funkier than a New York minute.

Kicking off a little bit like The Cribs with the jangly guitar of ‘Mans Needs’ being fairly reminiscent, the idea that Les Savy Fav may be treading a familiar path is blown away when the vocals kick in. The high pitched strain gets the listener onside as early as possible and to be honest, the song is an extremely likeable number throughout.

Les Savy Fav may be New Yorkers and they seem as though they like a good party but coming from a city where the Mayor runs around with hookers and diamond girls, is it any wonder that the hip bands of the day sound as though they know how to shake their tail-feathers.

‘Patty Lee’ features an absolutely delicious chorus that will not fail to get people hollering along but when you listen to the underplaying guitar you can pick out the style of 80s UK indie and there are definite darker stabs underpinning the lead song here but in a very good way.

‘The Sweat Descends’ doesn’t manage to live up to the lead track but when there is already so much quality on show, anyone who has a complaint with the quality on offer here needs to have a think about what they could have ended up with instead.
