Appearances can be deceptive
If you’ve seen pictures of Mortis but never heard them you’d expect doom laden hardcore metal, but what you actually get is surprisingly cultured goth electronica. The vocals are purposeful and edgy when they need to be and with the music falling somewhere between Marilyn Manson and Depeche Mode, ‘The Grudge’ is pleasantly surprising and has a real groove about it, a definite ‘grower’.
Double A-side ‘Decadent and Desperate’ is more guitar based and a much harder, faster tune. Another good song though that takes the sound pioneered by bands such as Alien Sex Fiend and moves it on to another level.
Behind the mask and the make up Mortiis are a good band, check them out, they may just surprise you.
