What's The Question Single

The opening drones of What’s The Question? hint at more than a glaring homage to shoe gazers like Jesus and The Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Yes, it sounds intense and yes, parts of it are beguilingly powerful. Vocals swell and swoon whilst the reverse guitar depicts a dark and menacing backdrop. From such a promising start it meanders along for a full four minutes without any real progression and it becomes easy to lose interest. Where you expect a push, a more powerful guitar lick or a passionate vocal, it negates.

And here is me thinking that the whole point of a b-side was to show a bands different side, their alter-ego and thus a different appeal and yet Big Six Wheel sounds too identikit to the lead track in a different key.

Some bands seem to wish they were in a different era, blind to which genres are popular and which are outdated. Alas, The Domino State are a couple of decades too late.
