Jangly Summery Indie
Swedish group Raymond & Maria hit the top spot in Sweden with their first single, 'No One Notices Your Brand New Tshirt' and now they're hoping for a piece of the UK market with, 'It Could've Been You'. It's a sweet, quirky indie tune with pretty vocals and a mellow melody à la The Cardigans; there's nothing not to like, but it's not making massive waves either. The addition of a violin line to the pretty acoustic guitar rhythm adds a little spark and the two girls' interchanging vocals will win you over in no time, but it's hard to estimate whether the duo will capture British hearts.
Bside, 'La, La, La, La' is an adorable clap-along anthem with an upbeat tone and sighing cello. It's a jangly little politicised number that bemoans capitalism and false promises. There's a distinct folk twang to the paired down instrumentation and it's a lovely tune that evokes summery memories with its breezy melody.
