Sunflies are a four piece alternative indie band from St. Albans and despite their name have an intriguing and powerful dark side to their music. The band have been likened to Arcade Fire, Placebo and The Cure.

Their latest release “The Indigo Sampler” is a three track EP which is available now. Sunflies produce a dark indie sound which is upbeat yet haunting. The pounding rhythms are held down well by Chris and Matty on Drums and Bass respectively.

Opening track “Vampires” sets the tone for the EP, and is a perfect example of the Sunflies sound. Johanna Scott’s Vocals are excellent throughout the EP and are one of the reasons why the Sunflies music can be so poignant and chilling. These vocals combined with occasional and sometimes subtle harmonies add to the concoction of this release.

If you are a fan of bands such as Placebo I think this is something you should check out. The Indigo Sampler has three well written songs which aren’t mind blowing but are certainly not average. The band have recently been creating a stir on the live scene, and from this release prove that they have the quality to achieve. The Sunflies are dark and mysterious yet surprisingly infectious; I suggest you take a closer look.
