Andy Burrows - The Colour Of My Dreams
You may know Andy Burrows as the drummer from Razorlight, what you may not know is that he has a solo album coming out called ‘The Colour Of My Dreams’.
If you were expecting Burrows’ solo project to by Razorlight part Two, you’ll be sadly disappointed, his songs are mellow and laid back, and the whole project came about by accident. During a break from Razorlight the drummer stumbled across a poem book and started setting them to music, the whole album was written and recorded in his home.
The imperfections in Burrows’ tender voice are endearing, if the vocals had been perfect I don’t think that the songs would have transpired half as well, and the gentle strumming of an acoustic guitar just adds even more emotion to the tracks. The poetic background of the lyrics is obvious, and on some tracks I do think they would be more powerful if they had been tweaked, just so that they lost a bit of that sugary poetic edge.
While it would appear that Andy Burrows’ is worried about outstaying his welcome, there are eleven tracks and the CD only last about half an hour, the tracks on here are simple yet beautiful.
The CD has a good cause, it’s released with the aim of raising funds for Naomi House, a children’s home in Winchester. The poems are also written by a Winchester based writer, Peter Dixon, who is also a friend of Burrows. Thanks to this CD Burrows comes across as caring and innovative, as well as showing himself to be a competent solo artist who has created some delightful little ditties.
