Rifftastic.
The vocals on this single sound a little bit like Gaz from Supergrass only with an American accent, but this band hails from Manchester so it’s an unexpected mix. Musically though they don’t sound anything like Supergrass, Fear Of Music have an alt-rock edge; this single is really likeable and hard to forget, using rumbling bass lines, a super catchy main guitar riff that hooks you in straight away with some additional fuzzy off kilter sections and anthemic orchestral sounding keyboard which adds a touch of depth and fullness. There is no second track but an alternative, instrumental version of the same tune but it’s so catchy that the instrumental version is just as listenable as the original. This single doesn’t feel unique but the swirling and fuzzy crescendos are uplifting and that main riff is just too good to ignore • it makes you want to listen over and over and over.
