Cedar Falls • Abandon

It begins with a rumble (insert drum roll here), it builds up intensity in its rhythms and then the incredibly gentle, comforting, yet powerful and demanding vocals awaken an inner demon that explodes from your chest. No you are not reading the synopsis to Alien: Resurrection, this is the way in which the first track, the title track from Cedar Falls latest Ep ‘Abandon’ made me feel.

As the tracks continue to break away form the CD and flow through the airwaves towards a listener, guitar riffs smash the sound barrier on ‘Twilight’, the intensity grows on ‘Unity’ and by the time ‘A Place To Stand’ hits, a mellow sensation, a heart touching and harmoniously passionate sound takes away your breath and replaces it with a deep thought of love and uniqueness.

Within just four tracks, you come out the other side of this CD emotionally more unstable, confident, powerful and understanding. It is so hard to believe that the first three tracks to this record come from the same minds that created the forth track. There are two very different emotional states, very different sounds and musically crafted tunes present here. Whatever it is that Jay, Matt and Steve have hidden up their sleeves to create such charged musical arrangements and anthemic songs has done the trick and transformed this listener.
