Some very smart journo coined the phrase “Dido Demographic”. It refers to those people who buy one or two mainstream records a year. In short, who to blame for careers like James Blunt’s and, erm, Dido’s. It’s also the natural demographic for this very pleasant, clean-cut singer-songwriter from Hawaii.
‘Missed It Again’ is a song about betrayal and heartbreak, but not in the slightest bit bitter or twisted. Yeah, so you want to “hang out with your friends”, good, but it’s more likely you’ll want to sit on the sofa stuffing yourself with ice cream. This isn’t the song to accompany the latter mood. The lyrics can be a bit too much like schoolgirl poetry at times, a bit too measured and sweet.
This is the lead single off her first album ‘Confidante’, which is apparently an expression of all the things that inspires Ann: spirituality, charities, and environmentalism. Very nice, very worthy. Not very inspiring. But I’m sure it’ll do well. Blandness has never stopped a record before.
