Promising Shoegaze Indie
Indie rockers John and Jehn are two French purveyors of shoegaze who now come to you via London town. The band's sound is both serene and starry with driven rhythms mixed with plenty of dreamy instrumentation.
'Fear Fear Fear' is a chilled, slightly jangly but very mellow tune with lilting vocals and an uplifting rhythm that gives some power to its self-reflective sighs. This single has a beautiful disconnected intimacy of Electrelane or fractious glitter pop of Sons and Daughters with gorgeous guitars and it's easy to see the pair becoming popular amongst indie lovers.
B-side, 'Sister' shows off John's lazy vocal drawl with tender whispers from Jehn adding a frisson of tension to the shuddering percussive section which is already edgy and sultry enough. It’s a nice tune but sounds a little too much like a multitude of other bands to really make an impact. John and Jehn have plenty of potential; they look good together, they have a great band name and their tunes are full of promise, but it's unlikely that they'll hit the mainstream unless they can throw in a little more originality.
