Easy To Forget

Matt Costa's latest single is another upbeat, guitar-based indie tune with a fairly traditional pop feel. The tune is slick enough in its presentation and smart enough but not highly memorable. It doesn't bore because the jolly, strummed acoustic guitars are high in the mix and constantly buzzing in the listener's ears but the melody isn't the strongest and doesn't catch your attention for more than a fleeting moment. It's nice to hear a little jazzy touch of piano on a mainstream indie tune, but it fails to prove the winning addition and the whole tune passes with very little to say for itself. The lyrics, "I've heard the story I'm sure he held you down, forced you to do things while I'm not around, you lied" calls for a slightly more vitriolic tone whereas 'Cigarette Eyes' just bounces along happily and seemingly carefree, contradicting everything that Costa's trying to say. Sorry, I just feel neither empathy nor interest for this chirpy little indie nugget.
