It’s Not Me, It’s...Them!

It has been about six months since the release of ‘Yes I Am’, so some new material from Pg.lost was expected in the coming months.

This six track Ep titled ‘It’s Not Me It’s You’ is very exploratory into the instrumentals that can occur from a post/rock act. Taking a broader and more dynamic sound than the previous release could manage, this one takes nearly an hour to play six lousy songs!

First up is ‘The Day Shift’. For the first three minutes this song is subtle and like an extended introduction of a rock number before the beat kicks up. Like a rock number, the beat is electric with an inner solitude. Next up is ‘Head High’. Another subtle start from this song that this times concludes on a more indie vibe than an intensified rhythm; the violins towards the end make for a chance though. ‘Pascal’s Law’ is barely heard for the first minute or so, then rumbles and pounds for five minutes before being gatecrashed by forceful guitars. ‘Maquina’ is a timid beginner that builds to an indie rhythm then a passionately forceful blast of noise. ‘Jonathan’ is a ten-minute indie song all the way while the concluding ‘Siren’ develops for twelve minutes much like ‘Maquina’.

It is refreshing having a band focus on the aim of the game, music, and not the screaming of meaningless lyrics down a microphone. But the duration of each track is beyond belief and is far too long. I’m curious, if the majority of songs are ten/twelve minutes long, how many tracks they perform in an hour and a half long live set?
