Wire To Wire

Remember the good ol days of 2003? Back when Razorlight were fresh-faced and frenetic, famed for their egotistical front-man Johnny Borrell. A band that dared to believe they were the next best thing to happen to British music since Jack Daniels was first imported. Those were the days, now Razorlight are on their third album and seem to be as radio-friendly as they come.

Wire To Wire itself is a rewarding listen with Borrell impressing in subtle vocal delivery taking turns with dramatics. Dare I say it, occasionally the histrionics even creep towards gospel music. Incidentally, the video even features the band solemnly holding matches as if candles. Piano keys hauntingly patrol the background yet the song barely gets out of first gear.

Where is the bravado, the excitement, even the arrogance is marked by its absence. Whilst Wire To Wire deftly impresses, for a first single from a new album this is worrying, even for someone with Borrell’s ego.
