A snippet of the album...

It took Goldie Lookin’ Chain a fair while to break away from having to release material themselves and aiming out at a much wider audience. But when 2004 hit and they released ‘Guns Don't Kill People, Rappers Do’ everything changed. Everyone began asking “who are these rappers?”

Five years on, they have made quite a name for themselves. After a well deserved break the band have come together to release their new album ‘ASBO4LIFE’. I have only had a taster of what is going to be on offer from GLC and I believe it to be some of the most enjoyable material they have ever released upon us.

‘By Any Means Necessary’ is the first single to be released and is even more infectious than ‘Guns Don’t Kill People...’ From the outset it is a typical GLC tune, but as it develops it has dance beats, is more organised and professional than previous material and has a chorus that you can not help but chime in with the repetition of the title line.

The other four songs remain pretty consistent in with the GLC theme, both lyrically and musically. ‘Disguise’ is more rugged with sirens placed over the top; ‘New Day’ has an odd yet interesting buried piano melody and harmonies, and ‘Everybody is a DJ’ seems to be a version of ‘Guns Don’t Kill People’ for 2009. The concluding track, ‘Mister Fahrenheit’ adds a little rock into the rap mix with layer upon layer of insults.

If this is what is to be expected from the remainder of the album then bring on ‘ASBO4LIFE’!
