The nominations in the 108 catagories for the 48th Grammy Awards have been announced and there's a reasonable showing from both Brits and R13 interest acts. Here's our guide to who's up for what so you don't have to bother reading through it all.

Of the British representatives, Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Chemical Brothers, Gorillaz and Fatboy Slim can all feel pleased with themselves having bagged at least two each.

Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal: 'Speed of Sound' Coldplay; 'Best of You' Foo Fighters; 'Do You Want To' Franz Ferdinand; 'All These Things That I've Done' Killers; 'Sometimes You Can't Make It on Your Own' U2.

Hard Rock Performance: 'Doesn't Remind Me' Audioslave; 'The Hand That Feeds' Nine Inch Nails; 'Tin Pan Valley' Robert Plant; 'Little Sister' Queens of the Stone Age; 'B.Y.O.B' System of a Down.

Metal Performance: 'The Great Satan' Ministry; 'Determined' Mudvayne; 'Mein Teil' Rammstein; 'What Drives the Weak' Shadows Fall; 'Before I Forget' Slipknot.

Rock Song: 'Best of You' Foo Fighters; 'Beverly Hills' Weezer; 'City of Blinding Lights' U2; 'Devils & Dust' Bruce Springsteen; 'Speed of Sound' Coldplay).

Rock Album: 'X&Y' Coldplay; 'In Your Honor' Foo Fighters; 'A Bigger Bang' Rolling Stones; 'How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb' U2; 'Prairie Wind' Neil Young.

Alternative Music Album: 'Funeral' Arcade Fire; 'Guero' Beck; 'Plans' Death Cab for Cutie; 'You Could Have It So Much Better' Franz Ferdinand; 'Get Behind Me Satan' White Stripes.

Elsewhere, 'Feel Good Inc' by Gorillaz featuring De La Soul and 'Boulevard of Broken Dreams' by Green Day are both up for record of the year along with 'We Belong Together' Mariah Carey; 'Hollaback Girl' Gwen Stefani and 'Gold Digger' Kanye West. There is also a song of the year category which features U2 for 'Sometimes You Can't make It On Your Own', they're also up for album of the year for 'How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb'.

The New artist category includes Keane and Fall out Boy, as well as Ciara, John Legend and SugarLand.

The Pop Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal section is to be scrapped for by: 'Don't Lie' The Black Eyed Peas; 'Mr. Brightside' The Killers; 'More Than Love' Los Lonely Boys; 'This Love' Maroon 5 and 'My Doorbell' The White Stripes. Meanwhile the award known as Pop Collaboration With Vocals is between 'Gone Going' The Black Eyed Peas & Jack Johnson; 'Virginia Moon' Foo Fighters featuring Norah Jones; 'Feel Good Inc' Gorillaz Featuring De La Soul; 'A Song for You' Herbie Hancock featuring Christina Aguilera and 'A Time to Love' Stevie Wonder featuring India.Arie.

In the dance section there's some pretty fine acts fighting it out for prizes. Dance Recording has 'Galvanize' Chemical Brothers; 'Hello' Deep Dish; 'Wonderful Night' Fatboy Slim & Lateef; 'Daft Punk Is Playing at My House' LCD Soundsystem; 'I Believe in You' Kylie Minogue and 'Guilt Is a Useless Emotion' New Order.

Electronic/Dance Album: 'Push the Button' Chemical Brothers; 'Human After All' Daft Punk; 'Palookaville' Fatboy Slim; 'Minimum-Maximum' Kraftwerk; 'LCD Soundsystem' LCD Soundsystem.

Some of the amusing categories include, jazz instrumental performance, traditional tropical latin album and the spoken word album for children, which will be keenly fought between Harry Potter and Whinney the Pooh-come on that bear!

The winners are announced next February.
