Festival Republic, formerly Mean Fiddler, have announced a big increase in people using the shuttle buses to get to Leeds Festival.

The numbers getting on board were up 30% on 2006.

Geldards Coaches Ltd operated a 51 strong shuttle service, running approximately every 10 minutes from Leeds Bus and Train Stations to Bramham Park. Transporting almost 20,000 festival goers to and from the festival site over the weekend. This was an incentive aimed to encourage ticket holders to leave their cars at home, take public transport and ensure their journey had as little impact on the environment as possible.

The coach service is one of a series of green initiatives set up by Festival Republic, which forms part of a massive push to provoke sustainability awareness amongst festival goers at Carling Weekend: Leeds Festival.

The public transport initiative has once again raised a sizable chunk for charity. With this year's bus ticket sales Geldards Coaches Ltd have raised £10,000 for Martin House Hospice. Festival Republic will match this figure bringing the total donation to £20,000.

Both parties are keen to increase the number of buses even further in 2008.
