Lux Interior, lead singer of the massively influential psychobilly punk outfit The Cramps, died yesterday.

Famed for his outrageous live performances and for The Cramps paving the way for much of the horror rock genre that followed, Interior (Born Erick Lee Purkhiser) started the Cramps in 1972 and maintained the core of the band along with wife and guitarist Poisen Ivy up until the present day.

According to a statement from the band's publicist Interior died on Wednesday morning due to an existing heart condition. He was 62.
