Winter is well and truly on us so we thought we would bring The Darvaza Hole to warm you all up. Not the one in Turkmenistan (although that is still pretty impressive) but a band a bit closer to home, Essex.

The trio may not be a household name but there mix of soft and frantic styles have impressed us immensely and fingers crossed they will get the exposure they deserve, which you can start doing right here by listening / downloading their Sardanapalian EP for free below:

Bio:
Laura Coban met Steve Dewis and Richard Jones at an open mic night in a dimly lit jazz bar in Westcliff-on-sea. Laura was singing Jeff Buckley and Carly Simon covers a cappella, while Steve and Rich were performing original acoustic songs. Impressed by the blend of the two guitars and vocal harmonies, Laura approached the boys to discover that their previous band The Signals had split up that week. Laura was in luck! They started jamming together acoustically and gigged as The Kalm, but it didn't take long for the desire to play loud electrified music became apparent.

Working through a series of drummers and bass players in a practise studio in Southchurch, the trio soon realized that nobody could really understand what it was they wanted from their sound. No-one couldn't keep up with the speed at which they were writing, nor the challenge of the difficult ideas they were working through. Steve dropped the guitar and taught himself the drums, and Laura picked up the bass, and so they became The Darvaza Hole.

Laura Coban (Vocals and Bass)

Sounds Like:
We've been compared to all sorts! People can't seem to agree on our genre. Laura is often compared to PJ Harvey. Musically we've had QOTSA, Tool, RHCP, Pink Floyd, The Mars Volta, Public Image.....Iron Maiden??! And more. Everyone we speak to says something different.

Laura: Re-open The Grand Hotel in Leigh-on-sea as a student pub/music venue before a TOWIE celebrity ruins it.

If you could go back to any time in history, where would you go and why:
Rich: 1947 - get myself over to Roswell to see what crashed!
Steve: 1985 to tell my young self to practise more.
Laura: The 70's. Glam Rock. Bowie. Platforms.

Is there anything you would like to say to our readers:
Rich & Steve: If you like our music get down to see us live and tell all your friends about us.
Laura: Continue supporting unsigned music - thank you in advance for supporting ours.
