Gizmachi overcome Sunday morning slot to impress

Sunday morning is an unfortunate time to be on, no matter who you are. Most people are probably not really with it, or are very hung-over, so credit to Gizmachi for trying. It's their first show in the UK, and the turnout isn't that bad given the fact (the tent is three quarters full).

They're loud, noisy, and seem intent on making your ears bleed. I'm beginning to wonder what I've let myself in for when I realised that 'I'm gonna fuck with you when you're dead' is the basic lyrical content. However, they're a band of surprises and we actually get an ace set. The band are really having fun, not stopping moving once.

The best bits of the set are when they combine thrash metal with more melodic, sung vocals. It's something the band do well. The rest of the set is well worth watching for the music itself, which is tight and well thought out. And near the end, all the crowd are starting to get into it.

And, as the cliché goes, the best is always left for last. After declaring that 'it's been a pleasure seeing you in this beautiful country', they launch into a bewildering, chaotic, multi-layered song. It's also deafeningly loud, and it's 'Words of Charity'. It feels like they're pursuing aural war on us all. Although it seems strange that there is actually singing on it, there are so many parts and all of it together is literally awesome. We get rolling basslines and a gorgeous melody - it's so quiet for the band, it certainly keeps us all riveted. Just when we think it's the end, there's more, with the Gizmachi producing the best guitar solo of the set.

By the end of the set, a lot of us are really getting into it and it's only fair - they really deserved it!
