A Nice Way To Be

Once apparrently with Sony, Stateless have recently been working with DJ Shadow and have a new album in the wings. Tonight they only get half an hour but in front of a pretty packed crowd in Leeds HiFi Club they use their time well.

Previous comparisons to Coldplay seem unfounded on tonight's evidence and for that I am thankful! Ok so the vocals at times are not dissimilar but the music is vastly superior. Stateless are also far more interesting to watch and feature a very diverse sound, it's verging on indie chill out in places but has the ability to rock out at times too. Special mention should go to some excellent deck work from Kidkanevil and it's here, along with the keyboards and programming that the difference lies, it just gives them that something extra to take the songs onto the next level and give the whole experience a much richer sound.

Singer Chris is a consummate frontman, he really looks the part and is clearly feeding of a highly appreciative crowd. A little light musically in places but overall Stateless give us a solid set of engaging tunes and half an hour isn't really long enough to guage their full effect. Stateless appear to have all the elements in place to really get somewhere and this time next year Sony could be kicking themselves that they don't still have them on their books.
