Art of dying return to the UK

After catching this band at this year's Download, I was quite eager to see how Art of Dying were going to sound on tour, supporting a major band as oppose to a festival. For these new to this band, Art of Dying can be described as melodic, hard rock with definite grunge influences. The lead singer's vocals range from the Canadian style, "grungey" drawl to heavy, almost metal screaming.

Sadly, there were no large amps or speakers for the bassist to jump off this time. This didn't stop him, nor the entire band from enjoying themselves on stage. The mixing and the sound in general was great with some interesting dual mic action from the lead singer. The crowd were initially a little apathetic but soon joined in with the clapping and chanting. I could see a few hardcore fans down at the front, riding on their mates' shoulders. The venue wasn't totally packed but still, a good turnout for a band first on the bill.

Plenty of beer spewing, jumping and megaphone action later, AOD play out to "Get Through This", one of their best tracks in my opinion. The band played a solid set, sounding very close to their recording. AOD certainly have what it takes to put on a good rock show. The crowd wasn't the biggest, the most crazy or devoted but it is certainly a good start. It will be interesting to see where this band goes in the future.
