Tight Tunes Reel The Crowd In

It's a pleasant surprise to discover that Blood Red Shoes are opening for Maximo Park, and lucky for the fans that have got down to Barrowlands early that they catch the duo's set. Opening with, 'It's Getting Boring By The Sea', Blood Red Shoes are onto an instant winner as this tune has such ragged and incisive riffs that even after the excitement of Maximo, they were ringing in my ears. It's a cliché, but the Brighton duo resemble the Jack and Meg of indie pop in a stark role reversal that sees Laura-Mary Carter strutting around the stage equipped with a guitar. Of course Maximo Park do have a penchant for girls who play guitars and Laura-Mary doesn't hold back packing in forceful jabs, while drummer Steven pounds the percussion like there's no tomorrow.

The tunes range from the melodic guitar-led indie to the shrieking punk edge of the spectrum but they all keep the crowd guessing and interested, even this early on in the evening.
