A Warm Welcome

It's frustrating when fans don't turn out early to see a support band, in fact one of the things that US bands often praise the most in British audiences is our punctual arrival to check out all the acts on the bill. It's the same for Patrick Wolf tonight, there's a massive crowd lined up outside for the sold out Glasgow show, unfortunately for Lightspeed Champion and the fans, he appears to be scheduled onstage before the doors even open and after stringent ID checks to graffiti the hands of the under 18's in the audience, even the earliest arrival barely has a chance to catch more than 5 songs from Dev. Despite playing to a fairly small crowd then, Dev seems confident and upbeat, playing a cover of The Strokes', 'The Heart Beats In Its Cage' that sounds equally as passionate and groovy acoustic as it does when the US hipsters themselves play.

The lovely, chilled but engaging single, 'Midnight Surprise' closes the set and is full of charm and delight, while 'Galaxy of The Lost' is just as lush, although more personal performed solo. There are a fair few warm sing-a-longs and enough to engage a much bigger crowd, thankfully the queue at the merch stand after Dev's slot proves that he made a fair few fans and those that had already made their way through the security, were pleasantly surprised.
