Shibby - Subverse at the Underworld, Camden

I’ve pointed it out once or twice before but by hell I’m going to say it all over again. These lads are excellent performers. They are amazing at what they do so why the hell are they not signed?

After Matt left Shibby a few months ago, I was a little concerned about the future of the band, but after seeing this performance I am please to announce they are stronger than ever and back with a BANG! They have a new bassist called Justin and growing stronger after every day. Subverse at the Underworld, Camden was the first performance Shibby has given since Justin joined the band, so nerviness and anxieties are to be expected, but never did any of the guys let it show. Loz played drums as best as ever, Sean rocked his heart out and Justin acted like he had been doing this for years.

Things have changed a little since I last saw them live. Where Matt supplied the main vocals, Sean has now taken over stepped into the position easily and outstandingly. He has an edgy yet smooth voice, which suits all tracks. Justin began to back up the vocals on some songs. He seemed to miss the odd line here and there, but that can be forgiven given the circumstances and it NEVER let the performance down. If anything, it made it all that more enjoyable as it was live and unplanned.

With a new face come some new songs, as well as the old. The performance of ‘Falling’ was exceptionally interesting for its new take. Shibby made tracks come alive with their electric sounds, Loz drumming harder than a cough candy and Sean being very careful not to hit anyone in the eye with the swinging of his guitar.

The entire performance these three young lads were able to put across was bursting with energy, concentration, keenness and ambition. The way the crowd was encouraged to participate and sing along was an excellent way to introduce new listeners to a new sound.
