Pretty Indie Pop

Oxford six-piece Jonquil sound great on the Lake Stage on Friday afternoon. They benefit from the fact that the stage is positioned handily between food vans and a pleasant place to sit, relax and soak up some music, and thankfully their pretty tunes make for easy and enjoyable listening. The weather may not be perfect but, 'Sudden Sun' adds a mellow outdoors vibe with calling vocals and booming double bass. The band's pretty, florid mix of brass, violins and jaunty percussive beats is interesting, but not quite developed enough to draw an especially large crowd, however those who are present seem to enjoy the rich, resonating vocals and experimental pop feel.

There's an almost dreamy quality to many of the tunes with a new song featuring a drum track, flute and shuffling melody that seemed to strive for a epic quality and fall not far off. They could be the next indie Arcade Fire if they get enough exposure and continue to fashion such beautiful music.
