Shooting for the moon...it's Apollo

This is one band that lives up to the saying, “never judge a book by its cover”. What makes Apollo one of the most unique bands around at the minute is their age range for a start, with five lads from different ages all with a similar passion for producing music and a mature nature for what they are playing.

The sound the band is creating is another marvellous factor in catapulting them alongside Bon Jovi, U2 and other successful rock acts. While on record the band has all you need to be memorised, live they have even more to offer. The songs are pure rock with a touching heart aching effect that makes a listener stunned and yet gasping for more. From the melodious debut single ‘This Is My Town’ that the lads gave away to all in attendance, to the more slightly subtler ‘Peaks and Troughs’ they are able to achieve anything with their sound.

At the start, nerves seemed to have their hold over the band, except for Matt Sizer who remained calm and fulfilled throughout the set. By the time the band reached their seventh song, a performance of ‘Forget It’, they all began to relax and enjoy themselves on stage moving about to their music.

With two vocalists things usually get a little heated, vocals crashing against each other or being poles apart that they collide. With Lee Picton on lead vocals and Neil Picton backing him up on choruses, the tracks were able to flow without hesitation and really blend together well. The harmonies were pretty swift thought out the bands set, but it was while signing ‘(You Are Going) Down With Me’ where the precious vocal combination really told hold of the crowd.

Apollo are a band that while entertain a small crowd on stage at the Water Rats, could easily break though the restraints to a much larger audience and a much larger venue, watch out Wembley, here they come!
