On The Crest of a Wave

We Are the Ocean played the Rock Sound Cave on Friday night at Guilfest, the main support slot for headliners You Me At Six.

This lot are on the way up fast and it’s easy to see why. They tick all the post-hardcore boxes, fast-paced songs with a mixture of screamed and sung vocals and an energetic stage presence, all of which is lapped up by one of the biggest crowds of the weekend in this tent. Early single ‘So Damn Good’ gets a particularly strong reaction, but everything they do is loved by the fans and they certainly did a good job working the Rock Sound Cave up for You Me at Six.

The down side here though is that it’s all rather predictable and there’s nothing going on that makes them stand out from the post-hardcore bunch. You can’t argue with the popularity, but after a few songs there was nothing that made this reviewer want to stick around rather than be in place at the main stage for the start of Motorhead.
