Iwrestledabearonce scream the place down

When it comes to the more screamo element to music, there are some artists that are capable of pulling it off; blending together heavy metal sounds with some gruff vocals. Then there are musicians that completely loose the plot, put too much aggression and anger into their sound, and it's the latter which Iwrestledabearonce fell into on this night, and lost the attention of the crowd.

As they took to the stage at London's Electric Ballroom in Camden as support for Alesana, they began playing some heavily strummed guitars, which were being swung around in all directions by their players and drums were being pounded harshly to some tougher melodies and then the vocals kicked in. Gruff vocals are understandable for the style of music that Iwrestledabearonce aim to play. For this female vocalist they were high pitched as she shouted lyrics that contained anger and aggression. On this occasion however, not a single word was understandable and her screaming of the lyrics were so high pitched at times that one was left contemplating if a human could make such a racket. Each and every track sounded as angry and sordid as the ones surrounding it, there is no vocal variation just musical, which at times overpowered the vocals.

The crowd this evening seemed to find the music of Iwrestledabearonce a little off-putting, with only a minor percentage actually shouting along or participating to some degree.
