True Grit

Winners of the Irish Wella Shockwaves Unsigned competition, Acidtone are a young band still in their teens but they have a very mature sound. This is classic hardcore thrash with big meaty riffs punctuated with drum fills.

Spikey haired vocalist Adam growls and screams through most of the set and puts on a good show as he cavorts and leaps around the stage. Occasionally he builds in a more rap orientated sound to add variety and the second track in particular has more than a shade of RATM about it. Formed in 2002 they are certainly competent musicians and as their set progresses there are some well structured songs with nice guitar and bass interplay.

It's hard to get a crowd motivated at 11.45am but Acidtone do a good job of getting the front few rows animated and of course it always helps when you throw a couple of free tshirts out. With tight punchy songs they deliver a short, sharp shock and go down well in front of a fair sized crowd. Definitely not recommended as a hangover cure!
