Starting the party the pirate way

Pete and the Pirates opened day two at the Purple Turtle and played an impressive collection of up-tempo indie rock tracks, taken from previous EPs 'Wait. Stop. Begin' and 'Get Even'. One such track featured a line referring to the Carling Cup which is not something I've heard before!

The numbers inside the venue were good, as was the reaction, something which the band seemed a little overwhelmed by. They also seem to have a front man who's come straight from the Paul Smith (Maximo Park) school of humbleness which is always likely to please those that have made the effort to go and see them live. This isn't the only comparison to Maximo Park that can be made as they're a band who fans of the Newcastle rockers may well find to their liking.

Pete and the Pirates have the look of college students about them and at times appeared to be a little awkward, maybe nervous but at no stage did this come across in their playing. This was a slick, tight performance that got those who were up for that sort of thing early in the evening dancing.

The band are set to play Latitude later in the year and you'd be well advised to check them out if you're heading to Suffolk this July.
