A Poor Panic! Performance

Panic! At The Disco took a beating at Reading and Leeds last year resulting in one of the band being knocked unconscious. Sadly, the Reading crowds aim wasn't quite so hot this year, and the band managed to make it through their Reading set and up to Leeds in time for their late afternoon show.

Now, disco-emo might not necessarily be your cup of tea, but the crowd goes wild for the band and fails to notice how awfully out of tune frontman Brendon Urie is sounding today. Maybe he's feeling a tad afraid of what missiles are going to make it onto the stage next?

Either way, the set comprises of the usual suspects- with only one album to choose from, you're almost guaranteed that they will play at least one of your favourite songs. Dark and breathy single 'Lying Is the Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off' makes an appearance, as does 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' that both result in a large chorus from the assembled crowd.

'Time To Dance' does what it says on the tin- the crowd struts their stuff, oblivious to the out of tune vocals that the less impressed/more reserved members of the crowd are cringing at. 'I Constantly Thank God For Esteban' is also played much to the delight of the crowd.

Instead of lacing their set with several covers for padding, Panic! At The Disco resort to just the one ('The Weight', originally by The Band), for the Panic! boys have finally got some new material! The two new tracks are slick with a shiny pop sheen and are custom made to fit into the charts. Sadly, like a bad smell, Panic! At The Disco will continue to haunt rock music for at least another album.

Panic! At The Disco won't have won over any new fans with their set this afternoon, but those who came to see them have gone away happy. We can only hope they will go on to explore bigger and better bands in time once the disco-rock fad stumbles to its demise on the back of radio over-play.

But boys, if there is only one part of this review that you pay attention to, let it be this: please, learn how to pronounce 'Caricature'correctly. You'll thank me in the long run.
