Said Mike on stage

It was January last year when the ‘Stop The Clocks’ EP from Said Mike landed on my doorstep for review; it contained five tracks “bursting with hooks and riffs, which pulsate through you” and I was very much impressed. Yet, a year later all seemed to be quiet on the Said Mike front.

That was until the South Wales four-piece scrambled back to London with a date at Islington’s Bar Academy supporting Tonight is Goodbye and fellow Welshmen Attack! Attack! They may sound incredible on CD, but when given an open stage and an active crowd, Said Mike is in their element.

Vibrant guitars were driving many of the tunes, with the crashing of drums in the background. Vocals were a delight to hear, adorable and really put depth into the songs. ‘Stop The Clocks’, ‘The Ballard Of Peter Divine’ and ‘Let Yourself Go’ were just some of the night’s highlights. The stage was alight with four lads all having the musical gift of entertaining.

If you want to get your music heard by as many people as possible, giving away free CDs is perfect and definitely going to secure a fan base. I have listened to it and can’t wait to hear more. Said Mike return to this very venue on Friday March 13th supporting Lights Action and Young Guns. So, if you fancy an evening of excellent music from a thriving band, forget all your suppositions and head out.
