Everything Is Fine

Hawk Eyes are a band seriously on the rise at the moment. They’ve flown into 2015 head first and with the release of new album Everything Is Fine are set to become one of the stories of the year. The band’s strong point though has always been on the live stage and tonight wasn’t really any different. They delivered a strong and confident performance, despite some early sound issues (turns out their normal sound guy wasn’t about), and were able to get a big reaction for the newer tracks just as much as the oldies. In fact, the band do work so hard on the live circuit, it was no surprise to see that so many in the crowd were already so familiar with some of the newer material.

The eclectic nature of their music is what makes them such a fun band to watch live. You’ll have your slower heavier moments, before being launched in to a punkier vibe almost out of nowhere. You can tell the band are growing in confidence as well with the crowd interaction also helping add to the occasion. Whether a heavy touring cycle had any effect on it, the band lacked the kind of energy seen at recent shows somewhat, but this didn’t end up of having an adverse effect on the tight musicianship which seems almost unbreakable. As already noted, a lot of the new tracks received a good reaction tonight, especially recent single The Ballad Of Michael McGlue.

Yet again then Hawk Eyes have been able to prove that they are definitely not a band to be taken lightly. Live they deliver a professional level of musicianship, which whilst tonight lacked some of the usual energy, cements them as one of THE bands to watch in heavy British music at the moment.
