Often dubbed the 'Black Sabbath of Taiwan', despite their music sounding very different, Heavy Metal band Chthonic now also houses a member of the Taiwanese Parliament! Lead vocalist Freddy Lim is also the co-founder of the New Power Party, a fact which has driven him towards becoming the first Heavy Metal star to be elected into Parliament anywhere in the world.
Throughout the campaign Freddy Lim was consistently attacked for his appearance and career path making his victory all that sweeter. In an interview after his victory, Lim stated the following: "I will never forget that the victory belongs to all of us... the road ahead may be difficult, but our goal is very clear! We are full of hope! I am Legislator Freddy Lim who represents Zhongzheng and Wanhua Districts, and I will take the will of the 300,000 residents in the constituency with me and put out maximum efforts to make a change for Taiwan."
Chthonic are currently signed to Spinefarm Records in the UK and are a band who have graced the likes of Download, Bloodstock and Wacken in recent years. After speculation on the band's future naturally arose, bassist Doris Yeh responded: "Freddy will not be replaced, and CHTHONIC will not be dissolved. The musical creation will continue, and move forward with Taiwan.".
