With the cornerstone of the UK summer festival schedule taking a year off, the absence of Glastonbury means that the other major events of 2006 will be in even more demand than usual.

Already the Isle of Wight is flexing it's muscles having announced that Prodigy, Placebo and Goldfrapp will be among the star attractions over the weekend of Friday 9th June until Sunday 11th June at Seaclose Park Newport.

However if you fancy something a little different, why not venture abroad.

Depeche Mode have strengthened their presence on the 2006 summer festival season with the announcement that they will play Benicassim.

The band, who recently revealed that they will be headlining California's Coachella festival between April 29-30, will also head to the Spanish event, which takes place just outside Valencia.

They're the first act to be confirmed for Benicassim, which this year will run between July 20-23.

The festival is now in its 11th year, and normally takes place at the beginning of August, however the town's mayor said the reason behind the move was to keep the bash away from the Spanish holidays in August.

If you can't wait until the summer, and fancy going further a field, why not check out the Bangkok 100 Festival over the weekend of February 18/19.

Oasis are to headline the event, with other UK acts Franz Ferdinand, Maximo Park and Ian Brown also confirmed to take part. They will join local artists at the Lakeside Muangthong Thani in the Thai capital.

Tickets go on sale on December 17 from www.thaiticketmaster.com.

No ticket news as yet for the Spanish and US events in this story.
