British Sea Power are to play a gig to help raise money to build a statue of football legend Brian Clough.

The gig at Middlesbrough Empire on July 28 is in aid of the Brian Clough Memorial Fund, and the band have agreed to perform for free as they are all fans of the former Nottingham Forest manager.

Clough was born in Middlesbrough with his time at Forest being his most successful in football, winning the European Cup in 1980.

The Middlesbrough Brian Clough Memorial Fund has so far raised over £25,000 towards a memorial for the man, often spoken as one of the greatest never to have managed England.

The statue will depict the young Cloughie walking to work through Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough's old ground.
