William Hill has shortened Malcolm Middleton’s odds of being Christmas number 1 yet again to 16/1.

'We're All Going To Die’ is now in front of the season's latecomer and grannies favourite Katie Melua.

"Christmas number 1 looks like a done deal for the X Factor, but much of the industry is pushing less manufactured acts for the festive charts and there is a chance that the X Factor winner could get beaten," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.

To make sure Malcolm's chances of getting to the Christmas top spot are greater, Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray has launched yet another offensive to get everyone to download the single version from the December 17.

In his mission statement, Colin says: "this is your chance to put a stop to the reality TV hat-trick of Christmas number ones...a chance to prove that there is still an element of unpredictability when it comes to the UK single charts....a chance to put a real independent artist on every radio station in this nation on Christmas day. Don't think 'great idea, like it, but it'll never work.' Apathy is our biggest enemy, not the bloke with the high
waistband."
