Fledgling radio station 6Music has seen a near exponential growth in its listenership in the past three months, it has been announced today.

The station, which has been earmarked for closure by the BBC Trust, has seen listener figures rise to 1.02 million, now making it one of the most successful digital stations run by the BBC.

This news comes days after station presenters Jarvis Cocker and Adam Buxton and Joe Cornish won Sony Gold awards for their work with the station, with ex-Pulp frontman winning a Rising Star plaudit and Adam and Joe awarded a gong Best Comedy show.

It is thought that these new figures will add to the mounting pressure to keep the digital station running.
