6 Music has been granted a reprieve from closure.

Despite initial indications that the station would close, mounting public pressure on the Trust has led to a dramatic u-turn, this morning.

The music station, which had been earmarked for closure by the BBC Trust in March, has seen a sharp spike in listener figures since rumours of closure, seeing the station’s reach rise from 600,000 to over 1 million listeners per week.

Station presenter, Lauren Laverne expressed her delight at the news this morning by posting on her Twitter feed: "6Music has been saved. Hooooorrrayyyyy!"
